Unless you are trying something unusual, you dont need to understand fetchmail at all, as it's not used by Zimbra in any way.

Have you actually installed zimbra yet? If not, read up on some of the documents in the Zimbra Wiki, there's a lot of information there, and there are step by step install guides too.

@Dirk:
sometimes, we need to use online - offline model with our mail server.
But if we only use zimbra, it can't serve the functions we want, such as: domainPOP. So we must use fetchmail, it can help us about that problems.
Why you said that: it's not used by Zimbra in any way, you don't need to understand fetchmail at all?
It's not an unusual action when you try to make zimbra can do as we need.
@u8210618: you can visit here to know more information about the fetchmail Manual Page - fetchmail(man)
or you can install fetchmailconf (in ubuntu, please type: get-apt install fetchmaiconf). It's fetchmail config by GUI.
Hope this help.
