Unhappy zmamavisdctl is not running

Today when i checked the Mail queueus (via zimbra administration) i saw several deferred mails.
When i checked the status on the command line i saw this:

zmcontrol status
Host yes.some.host (faked ofcourse)
antispam Stopped
zmamavisdctl is not running
antivirus Stopped
zmamavisdctl is not running
ldap Running
logger Running
mailbox Running
mta Running
snmp Running
spell Running
stats Running

Restarting all via zmcontrol restart gave:

zmcontrol status
Could not create the Java virtual machine.
mkdir : No such file or directory at /opt/zimbra/bin/zmcontrol line 35

then i did:
sh -x zmstatctl status
+ use strict
/opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatctl: line 17: use: command not found
+ use File::Basename
/opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatctl: line 18: use: command not found
+ use lib /opt/zimbra/zimbramon/lib
/opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatctl: line 19: use: command not found
+ use Zimbra::Mon::Zmstat
/opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatctl: line 20: use: command not found
/opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatctl: zmstatctl: line 22: syntax error near unexpected token `;'
/opt/zimbra/bin/zmstatctl: zmstatctl: line 22: `zmstatInit();'

Does somebody have any clue what's going on?
My specs:
Release 6.0.7_GA_2473.RHEL5_64_20100616215237 CentOS5_64 FOSS edition.

How much RAM does this server have? Try some of the solutions here: site:zimbra.com "Could not create the Java virtual machine" - Yahoo! Search Results

Could this have to to with the setting in /opt/zimbra/conf/localconfig.xml

<key name="mailboxd_java_heap_memory_percent">
<value>40</value>
</key>

What is the Xmx setting of Java?

I lowered that value from 40 to 30 what is 30% of the total memory.
Lets watch what is does.

Ok. I read the FAQ of my virtual host provider (vps and virtuozzo stuff)

They advise a these settings for Java:
-Xms64M
-Xmx128m

But the problem is, where do i set this in zimbra???
When i put this is in the zimbra user profile like:
export _JAVA_OPTIONS='-Xms64M -Xmx128m'

it has been overrided by the "zmcontrol start" sequence.

Where can i define this? Please help.

Today i realized that there are 10 amavisd processes and each is eating about 4.8% of my memory.

Is this normal behaviour?

I am still getting the java vm errors by the way.
