    I really think this is related to the Java startup somehow, since the admin gui web page doesn't work either. Do you know anything I can check there? I can't seem to figure out what files it's actually looking at...

    Well, I ran zmfixperms as root as well, just in case it was something messed up with permissions, but still the same. I have to leave now. Please don't give up on this though, OK? It's so darned close now... I will check back later for any further suggestions, from you or anyone...

    OK, I finally got the solution, and it was exactly related to the ports. I guess one of the things the other guy had done in my absence was installed and turned on apache. It already had the ports that Zimbra needed when it (Tomcat?) went to start up. I stopped apache:

    Code:
    root@mail:/opt/zimbra/log# /etc/init.d/apache2 stop
     * Stopping web server apache2
    Then restarted Zimbra as the zimbra user, and it worked! I also cleared out all the startup files so it would never start again:

    Code:
    root@mail:/etc# ls -al rc?.d/*apache*
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc0.d/K09apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc1.d/K09apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc2.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc3.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc4.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc5.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc6.d/K09apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    root@mail:/etc# ls -al rc?.d/S*apache*
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc2.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc3.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc4.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2009-03-12 10:21 rc5.d/S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2
    root@mail:/etc# rm rc?.d/*apache*
    root@mail:/etc# ls -al rc?.d/*apache*
    ls: cannot access rc?.d/*apache*: No such file or directory
    Done! Whew! Nothing to do with DNS at all...
