Default Smtp mail prolems

I have a strange problem.I can use the outlookexpress/Zimbra desktop using the port 465 for outgoing,143 for incoming.I can send or receive mails using this without any problem. We have started to use a software from which we can send replies to their mail box using the zimbra mail server. The parameter used for that are smtp server name, port,Whether ssl or not.
I configured this using port 465,our smtp servername, ssl etc But the mail send by this software never reaches to my mailserver.Icant see anything in the zimbralog. But I tried to change the parameters to my gmail account and it has successfully sent mail to the concerned person.
Please help me to settle this problem.

The correct Submission port would be 587 not 465 (that port has been deprecated) and you really should be using a secure IMAP connection and not port 143.

Use the correct Submission port 587 and authenticate against the server.

What about looking in the log files of 'this software', whatever it is? If it makes a connection to the Zimbra server then you should see something in the log files.

I changed the port to 587 and tried but no mail is forwarding to the server. We are using a third party software in which some visitors record the expression of interest and we simply reply to their mails. If i change the settings to Gmail , it works well.So the software vendor says that it is the Zimbra mailserver problem. But I could nt see anything wrong.

Well, without any information from the Zimbra log files or the log files of the 'software' that you're using (does it have any log files?) it's impossible to give you an answer.

You should be using port 587 as the correct Submission port and your application should authenticate against this port.
