Post redundnat mail setup?

Dear Zimbra community,

I have been using zimbra for a little while and love it. I'd like to host my family emails and seeing how that goes, maybe expand to my existing customers. I have a good basic understanding of mail servers but I lack knowledge in redundancy settings.

I'd simply like for my family/clients to be able to still get/send emails if the mail zimbra server is down for maintenance. I think a cluster is a bit too far fetched for a small setup with a few domains so I'm looking for ideas and pointers to relevant documentation.

I get how I'd do this with postfix, etc ... but zimbra is a complete solution and I'm a little confused on how to get it done.

Many thanks for any information you might have for me.

A cluster is what you need for redundancy. However, you need Zimbra Network Edition to do clustering.

Alternatively, you could install Zimbra in a virtual machine within VMware or XenServer, and using shared storage and multiple servers you could have the virtualization platform do live migrations/failovers from one node to another if any of your physical hardware goes down.

Well, I got zimbra running as a KVM node so I'll work from there and see if I can implement what you suggest.

Thank you for your help and advice.
