Default Migrating domains

Hi everyone!

Am very new to Zimbra, and have been tasked by my new job to do a domain migration, so please bear with me if my questions sound noob.

There is a OpenSource edition of Zimbra setup for production use, and we need to migrate it from domain1.com to domain2.com, while maintaining all the settings/accounts etc.

What is the best way for this?
How should I even begin?

Thanks!

Make sure you take a backup before you do anything to your systems then read the instruction on zmprov renameDomain.

Thanks for the advice. Will be testing it on a test system.
Meanwhile, can you advise what I should backup, and how I should backup?

Thanks!

For the Open Source version you need to stop ZImbra and backup the complete /opt/zimbra directory structure, there are various scripts in the Zimbra :: Wiki - take a look at the front page in the Backup section and pick one that suits you.

I just realise the user is running version 4.0.5 of Zimbra, and on RHEL 4.3
But they are not looking to do update.. so I guess I'm up for it...

Seriously you should get them to update CentOS to the current release, that version they have install is old and has (IIRC) some problems, they should also update Zimbra as that version is no longer supported - at the very least that means that any bugs they encounter will most likely not be fixed and there will be no further updates (binaries) released. There's been some security issues that have been addressed in more recent releases of Zimbra and that should also be updated.

hey phoneix, this is the first task that was given to me in my new job.
Apparently it is a business decision to change the domain name, as they got bought over. Some other implementation/upgrades in time to come, but just the domain change for an immediate business needs :x

What I found out:
they are using Microsoft AD for user administration. Will that be an issue?
Where do I check to find the settings?

The servers are clustered, and run off DRBD. Does that mean I need to run the domain switch just off one machine?

I saw this thread: [SOLVED] How to rename domain name from test.domain.com to domain.com.

is it applicable?

thanks guys

Yes, that thread is applicable and also has the details of what's needed to backup (basically the /opt/zimbra directory structure).
