Default [SOLVED] zmmailboxctl is not running

after a shutdown for a backup Zimbra did not come up again.
This is the message that was sent to root:

Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Enabled services read from cache. Service list may be inaccurate.

And this is the last output of zimbra.log:

Apr 26 20:01:21 mx zmmailboxdmgr[32748]: status requested
Apr 26 20:01:21 mx zmmailboxdmgr[32748]: stale pid 21169 found in /opt/zimbra/log/zmmailboxd_manager.pid: No such process
Apr 26 20:01:21 mx zmmailboxdmgr[32748]: assuming no other instance is running
Apr 26 20:01:21 mx zmmailboxdmgr[32748]: did not find a number in /opt/zimbra/log/zmmailboxd.pid
Apr 26 20:01:21 mx zmmailboxdmgr[32748]: assuming no other instance is running
Apr 26 20:01:21 mx zmmailboxdmgr[32748]: no manager process is running

This is the history of this events:
We had to change the IP address of the server that is running Zimbra.
Then I upgraded to Zimbra 6.0.6.

Now we have tried every way that was posted here to solve the problem, but still the zmmailboxdmgr is NOT running!
I would really appreciate some help. As all advice so far led to the same results.

That error usually indicates an error in your /etc/hosts file and/or your DNS A & MX records.

It would help if you actually told us what you've tried so for so we don't waste time going over the same debugging steps

we checkes etc/hosts and did all the digs. They reported back what they should according to the posts in the forum. We had someone else look at it and after setting it all up again the error persisted.
We most probably missed an important point but ran out of ideas.

What struck me was especially the line:
mx zmmailboxdmgr[20339]: file /opt/zimbra/log/zmmailboxd.pid does not exist

What we did not try out by now was Split DNS

until now the prevlem is still there. But do you have an idea what this line:
mx zmmailboxdmgr[20339]: file /opt/zimbra/log/zmmailboxd.pid does not exist
means?

We tried Split DNS according to the Wiki and the problem is still there. The output in zimbra.log still is:
stale pid 20833 found in /opt/zimbra/log/zmmailboxd_manager.pid: No such process
assuming no other instance is running
file /opt/zimbra/log/zmmailboxd.pid does not exist
assuming no other instance is running
no manager process is running
