Manual edit of Postfix config files

Hi,
I channel my mail through my ISP mailboxes. I have edited the postfix config file . i.e main.cf and added the smtp_generic_maps and postmap it.

Now, when i retreive mail form the ISP mailbox, the mailbox get retrieved and transfromed to a local address ( user1@example.com to user1@localdomain ) it gets ultimately remapped to Internet address by using the smtp_generic_maps

You can edit the postfix config but it won't survive upgrades.
