Default zmmailboxdctl is not running

Given the ClamAV issue, it seemed I had no choice but to upgrade, so, I upgraded from 5.0.16 to 5.0.23.

This appeared to go smoothly, however, once the update was complete, I was unable to start mailbox. Specifically, zmcontrol start completes without any error messages, but zmcontrol status shows nothing running. I've got no extra server running, and nothing binding to any of the common ports.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The first place to start would be to check your Log Files - Zimbra :: Wiki.

I've tried checking

mailbox.log hasn't had a new entry written to it since before the upgrade, and zimbra.log (Apr 16 05:00:05 sls-ce8p18 zim - Anonymous - 81d9aQRh - Pastebin.com) doesn't have anything interesting in it (as far as I can tell).

Shutdown ZCS and then run as root
Code:
/opt/zimbra/libexec/zmfixperms --extended
and then start ZCS again.

I think it just made things worse:

05:28:44 root on nnn in ~ |}> /opt/zimbra/libexec/zmfixperms --extended
05:29:24 root on nnn in ~ |}> su - zimbra
[zimbra@nnn ~]$ zmcontrol start
Host localhost
Starting ldap...Done.
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Enabled services read from cache. Service list may be inaccurate.
Starting logger...Done.
Starting mailbox...Done.
Starting snmp...Done.
Starting spell...Done.
Starting mta...Done.
Starting stats...Done.
[zimbra@nnn ~]$ zmcontrol status
Unable to determine enabled services from ldap.
Enabled services read from cache. Service list may be inaccurate.
Host localhost
ldap Running
logger Stopped
zmlogswatchctl is not running
mailbox Stopped
zmmailboxdctl is not running.
mta Running
snmp Running
spell Running
stats Running
UPDATE: mailbox.log still isn't updated, and Apr 16 05:33:32 sls-ce8p18 zim - Anonymous - hAUvGSNe - Pastebin.com is my zimbra.log. At least it looks like I found the problem (?) a problem with the ldap server?

Code:
cat /etc/hosts
cat /etc/resolv.conf
dig yourdomain mx
dig yourdomain any
host `hostname` <- note backticks and not single quotes

05:39:48 root on sls-ce8p18 in - Anonymous - 0mnae6np - Pastebin.com

I'm guessing that somehow I screwed up the re-configure?

Your /etc/hosts is completely incorrect. You have specified the same IP address against three different servers. The file should look like
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX zimbra.example.com zimbra
