Default Best method for migrating mailboxes between versions

Hi ppl

I have a zimbra 5.04 (OS) system that I'm about to replace with a 6.0.6 (OS) install. I've redone the underlying OS to bring it up to date as well.

There are only 2 mailboxes that I care about enough to move.

I've used the items.zip, but can see that it can't track the received data and other useful items.
I can't use the
/opt/zimbra/bin/zmmailbox -z -m user@domain.com getRestURL “//?fmt=tgz” > /tmp/account.tgz

As my live zimbra version is too old.

What is going to be the best way to retain that detail?

Should I use a POP3/IMAP setup to do this? Is there an alternative?

Am I going to be better off upgrading the old system to 5.10 or later to get that function?

Cheers

Robert

I don't understand why you need to 'migrate' anything, you can upgrade directly from your current version to 6.0.6 unless there's some detail you haven't mentioned? Make sure you take a full backup of the /opt/zimbra directory structure (with Zimbra stopped) before you try the upgrade.

Because I installed a newer version of ubuntu on a different box and I want to run zimbra on that server.

Or are you saying that I can just copy the /opt/zimbra from the old server to the the new server and run the install over the top?

Cheers

Robert

In that case I'd suggest you upgrade your current server (assuming it has sufficient RAM etc.) to the most recent release then migrate to the new server when you're satisfied that it's working OK. I assume that your new server will have the same FQDN as the original server?

There are several articles in the wiki/blog that cover migration, here's one to get you started: Moving ZCS to Another Server » Zimbra :: Blog - I'd suggest you read as many of the articles and forum threads as you can to plan the move (although it is fairly easy and painless) to familiarise yourself with what's needed. I'd also suggest you read the Release Notes before doing the upgrade in case there's anything in there that may trip you up. If you have any questions then post again but do, please, make sure you take adequate backups before and during the upgrades and migration.
