another question is: which file is the amavis config file used by zimbra? After doing the upgrade there are two files:
1) /opt/zimbra/conf/clamd.conf: this is the default config file used by zimbra
2) /opt/zimbra/clamav/etc/clamd.conf: this is the config file created during the installation of clam AV.

I've modified che second one, leaving the other file but i think that it is a bad idea mantaining two config file

Are you sure you removed the old link to the "clamav" shortcut and created a new link to the new 0.88.3 version?
When you compiled/configured it, you used 0.88.3 and not the version number in the how-to right?

When you do an "ls -la | grep clamav" in /opt/zimbra , do you show:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 Jul 4 14:57 clamav -> /opt/zimbra/clamav-0.88.3
drwxr-xr-x 10 zimbra zimbra 4096 Jul 4 14:55 clamav-0.88
drwxr-xr-x 9 zimbra zimbra 4096 Jul 2 02:04 clamav-0.88.3

the link it's right: clamav point to the new version (clamav-0.88.3).
Now i resolved the problem: i restarted the antivirus using the zmantivirus command! :-)
