Default playing with from: -addresses

Hi,

customer of us would like to change From: address.

They have company.fi on zimbra. company.com is somewhere else.
Company policy would like that they could send all emails From: name@company.com

I guess I just cannot create this domain (company.com) to zimbra, since then all company.com emails would come there. Is there any way to make this work?

Thanks in advance.

I believe what your looking for is a persona:
"Use personas to quickly change many settings when sending email messages. For example, if you sometimes send email in a particular role at work, create a persona for that role."

This can be set by the user in preferences under accounts

Yep. Personas works ok, no problem there. Problem is that if that domain doesn't exists on your zimbra server. Then you cannot create a persona with "non-valid" domainname.

I tested that if I just create company.com as an alias to company.fi and create a persona, it works ok. Of course there's a problem with certain mail routing and bounces, but I guess you can't get everything.

But if anyone know how to forge From: -address without creating a domain to zimbra server, it would be nice to know.

If you are not authoritative for the domain why would you want to be forging the from address ?

Because customer asks it

Their company policy says that they have to send all emails using company.com domain. But they do not use that email service at all where company.com authoritaive is.

So.. go figure

I could be cynical and say that sounds like a spam source I have tested in 6.0.5 and I am able to create a Person and set the From field to anything I like. Instead of clicking on the dropdown just type within the field the address you would like to use.
