Default User whitelist/blacklist format

What are the different formats that can be used in the user whitelist/blacklist entries in the Zimbra 6 mail preferences? I believe that an exact match can occur by just specifying an email address:

somebody@example.com

and I think you can have an entry applicable to everybody at a domain:

@example.com

But, what if you want to match everybody at any subdomain of example.com? @*.example.com doesn't seem to work. Or, what about matching a sender name, regardless of the domain (e.g., special-offers@*)?

Is there a complete list of the different formats available?

I believe it follows a standard regex format.

I'm not sure there's a "standard" regex format - you've got grep, egrep, perl, and probably a variety of other regex formats. Regardless, though, it doesn't seem to deal with regexes of even the simplest kind (using just .*)
