If you want to change the default domain name then have a look at this thread - it's the post from bobby that you need to follow.

    ZCS 4.0.4

I tried that first of course and it did practically nothing. I filed a bugzilla report.

zmsetservername doesn't quite work right in 4.0.x releases. These issues were addressed in bug 10970 and are in the 4.5.x releases. You can either grab a copy from one of those releases or from svn on sourceforge.

I did a zmsetservername on 4.0.4 and it didn't work, and so then I tried Eric's steps and still all I get is "Cannot determine services - exiting" when I try to start Zimbra. This is not a new install, so I cannot simply start over from scratch... in fact this was a production mail server until about an hour ago. I guess it is still technically a production mail server, but it's down right now...

Seeing as how Eric wasn't able to really test out his steps, does anyone else have any suggestions?

    The host name returned by:

    $ zmlocalconfig zimbra_server_hostname

    should have a server entry:

    $ zmprov gs {value returned above}

That server entry should have a zimbraServiceHostname attribute that is the DNS hostname of that server.

If local config and your LDAP server entry match up you should be good. Also check that zimbraMailHost on all accounts is also legit and points to a real server.

After running Eric's 9 steps, the command

zmprov gs mail.xxxx.com (<--- value returned from zmlocalconfig zimbra_server_hostname)

    returns

    error: account.no_such_server (nosuchserver:mail.xxxx.com)

also, running zmprov gas returns the old hostname

Strange. Did your accounts have the right mailhost set on them?

Well actually now I've figured out how to make zmprov gs return my server name (hopefully this is a good thing).

What I did was a zmprov -l cs new.servername.com and then a zmprov -l ds old.servername.com. That didn't work, failing on some sort of ldap permissions thing and I found a post out there that suggested I run zmldappasswd, so I did. Then I was able to do the zmprov cs and ds commands.

Now, however, I'm still having the same problem. Still cannot determine services.

How do I check to see if my accounts have the right mailhost set on them, and even so, would that make the services not start??

Can I just upgrade to 4.5 in order to fix this? I'm not getting anywhere, and I really should get this email server back up soon! What should I do, just download 4.5 and run the install? Will that otherwise save all my settings, accounts, etc.?

When you do a 'zmprov cs' you do not get some of the service installed/enabled attrs that the installer adds. I just checked what's set on my server and looks like you should be able to get away with adding the zimbraServiceInstalled and zimbraServiceEnabled attributes to your newly created server.

For the record here is a list of attributes set on my server by the installer (THIS IS NOT THE OUTPUT OF zmprov gs - this is the actual server LDAP entry - zmprov will default the rest from global config).

    Code:
    dn: cn=bolton.liquidsys.com,cn=servers,cn=zimbra
    zimbraId: 71278c3c-9537-4776-8627-d767f9c6c8c8
    objectClass: zimbraServer
    zimbraServiceHostname: bolton.liquidsys.com
    cn: bolton.liquidsys.com
    zimbraSpellCheckURL: http://bolton.liquidsys.com:7780/aspell.php
    zimbraImapSSLBindPort: 993
    zimbraPop3SSLBindPort: 995
    zimbraPop3BindPort: 110
    zimbraImapBindPort: 143
    zimbraPop3SSLProxyBindPort: 995
    zimbraImapProxyBindPort: 143
    zimbraPop3ProxyBindPort: 110
    zimbraImapSSLProxyBindPort: 993
    zimbraMailPort: 80
    zimbraMailSSLPort: 443
    zimbraMtaAuthURL: http://bolton.liquidsys.com/service/soap/
    zimbraMtaAuthHost: bolton.liquidsys.com
    zimbraSmtpHostname: bolton.liquidsys.com
    zimbraServiceInstalled: antivirus
    zimbraServiceInstalled: antispam
    zimbraServiceInstalled: logger
    zimbraServiceInstalled: imapproxy
    zimbraServiceInstalled: mailbox
    zimbraServiceInstalled: mta
    zimbraServiceInstalled: snmp
    zimbraServiceInstalled: ldap
    zimbraServiceInstalled: spell
    zimbraServiceEnabled: antivirus
    zimbraServiceEnabled: antispam
    zimbraServiceEnabled: logger
    zimbraServiceEnabled: mailbox
    zimbraServiceEnabled: mta
    zimbraServiceEnabled: snmp
    zimbraServiceEnabled: ldap
    zimbraServiceEnabled: spell
zimbraSshPublicKey: [deleted - you can get this via zmupdateauthkeys]
    zimbraMailMode: http
I am not sure why our installer sets the server values for all the ports which can actually be defaulted from global config, but that's just a minor issue and in some sense it is a good thing for the installer to set "what user said at install time," instead of playing games and optimizing it to "what user changed from default at install time."

For the record here is the command I ran to see what's on my LDAP server entry:

    Code:
    /opt/zimbra/openldap/bin/ldapsearch -H "`zmlocalconfig -m nokey ldap_master_url`" -w "`zmlocalconfig -m nokey -s ldap_root_password`" -D "`zmlocalconfig -m nokey zimbra_ldap_userdn`" -x -LLL '(cn=bolton.liquidsys.com)'
