Default Hardware requirement

Hello all,

I'm planning to implement Zimbra server on CentOS5 for 2000 users (about 15000 incoming mails and 8000 outgoing mails)

I'm still hesitate between two hardware config :

HP ProLiant DL380 G6 server with 2 x Intel X5560 (4 Core @2.8Ghz) + 8 GB Ram + 2 x 300 GB SAS Raid1

or

HP ProLiant DL38 G6 server with 2 x AMD Opteron 2435 (6 Core @2.6Ghz) + 8 GB RAM + 2 x 300 GB SAS Raid1

Actually with about 1300 users and only Intel 2 Core @3Ghz , I have a load average around 10 or more. So I dont know if I should buy a very effective proc (Intel) or if I should have more core as possible (AMD).

Thanks in advance (and happy new year !)

You should use RAID10 for performance with that many users.

I have an HP DL380 G5 with 500 users and the processor usage is very low, under 10%. The 12 GB of RAM in the server is not enough, I am looking to add more. Right now the server is using 11778MB of RAM. If more RAM is in your budget I would recommend get as much as you can.

Linux will always use most of the RAM rather than disk, are you sure that ZImbra is using all that RAM?

Actually for 1200 user I have only 4 RAM GB totally used by Linux but 0 MB of Swap (??), so I supposed it is actually sufficient.
