Default [SOLVED] 6.0.4 IMAP: Cannot copy mail to sent folder

Hi all,

after upgrading one of our servers to 6.0.4 I have an strange IMAP Error: When I try to send an e-mail with an PDF- attachment I get a "Cannot copy mail to sent folder" from E-Mail Clients e.g. TB, Evolution or MS Outlook.

This happens only with PDF Files as attachment. All other Filetypes e.g.
PNG, ZIP et cetera are being sent and copied to the sent folder.

The mailboxd.log looks like this:

Code:
[ImapServer-7] [ip=213.23.10.202;] ProtocolHandler - Exception occurred while handling connection
java.lang.NullPointerException
        at com.zimbra.cs.mime.ParsedMessage.initialize(ParsedMessage.java:212)
        at com.zimbra.cs.mime.ParsedMessage.<init>(ParsedMessage.java:155)
        at com.zimbra.cs.imap.AppendMessage.store(AppendMessage.java:132)
        at com.zimbra.cs.imap.AppendMessage.storeContent(AppendMessage.java:121)
        at com.zimbra.cs.imap.ImapHandler.doAPPEND(ImapHandler.java:2074)
        at com.zimbra.cs.imap.ImapHandler.executeRequest(ImapHandler.java:308)
        at com.zimbra.cs.imap.TcpImapHandler.processCommand(TcpImapHandler.java:99)
        at com.zimbra.cs.tcpserver.ProtocolHandler.processConnection(ProtocolHandler.java:175)
        at com.zimbra.cs.tcpserver.ProtocolHandler.run(ProtocolHandler.java:132)
        at EDU.oswego.cs.dl.util.concurrent.PooledExecutor$Worker.run(Unknown Source)
        at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:619)
Has anybody a clue where to look after? I'm now JAVA expert so I would appreciate any help.

Don't know where you would start to look. But, I have the same setup - 6.0.4 with Thunderbird using IMAP, and I can send an email just fine. It is copied correctly to my Sent Items folder.

Do you have any quota limits that might be getting in the way ?

... the funny thing is that this happens with PDFs as attachment only. Every other mail ist being handled by mailboxd without errors.

Could it be that this is some MIME / BLOB Datastore issue? I've tried to decode the JAVA Error Message with no luck so far. I'll upgrade another Server to 6.0.4 tonight to see if this is an Zimbra issue or some configuration related stuff.

Hi,

I tried on our test server (6.0.4 Network Edition on Suse) with Evolution as Email Client on Linux and I can send mail with PDF attachments (also tested with Zimbra Webinterface). The Mail including the attachment is in the Sent folder and delivered to the destination.

Regards
Thomas

In the meantime I filed a bug: Bug 43669 – mailboxd IMAP Cannot copy message to sent folder

I suppose that this has something to do with convertd / keyview and / or
lucene indexer and MIME-Types. I'll have a look at

Code:
com.zimbra.cs.mime.ParsedMessage.initialize(ParsedMessage.java:212)
to find out what makes mailboxd throwing this Exeption and closing the connection.

In the meantime we also discovered that even moving an existing e-mail to another folder via imap is causing exactly the same error.

BTW: All other server upgrades from 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 went smooth and flawless too.

Regards

Andreas

Any update to this bug? I have checked the bugzilla site, and it looks like there has been no activity on it since the 22nd. With the holidays, I can understand this, but I need this issue fixed as it is impacting every user I have.

Is a downgrade to 6.0.3 possible as a workaround until this issue is fixed?

Thanks,

QWade

... unfortunately no news from my side. Could you please vote for bug https://bugzilla.zimbra.com/show_bug.cgi?id=43669 and add a comment under which circumstances you've experienced the same behaviour.

Next thing I'll try ist to download the Zimbra Source Code and check out what happens on line 212 in com.zimbra.cs.mime.ParsedMessage.initialize(Parsed Message.java:212)

Maybe Zimbra can do that faster, but so far I've seen no activity on bugzilla.

I'm getting the same message in the mailboxd logs, but with other attachment types, not just PDFs. Confirmed with Thunderbird 2 on Linux and OE 6 on Windows.

I have updated bug 43669 and voted it up. My installation is on a Fedora 8 installation (Fedora release 8 (Werewolf) - Linux xxxx.xxxx.xxx 2.6.21.7-5.fc8xen #1 SMP Thu Aug 7 12:44:49 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux). Since a downgrade to 6.0.3 is not an option, I hope that this bug gets fixed soon as I have some very angry users at this point.

I can also confirm that this issue is occurring on attachments other than PDF attachments. I have seen the issue on Thunderbird and Mail.app with JPEGs and GIFS. Here is the error from the mailbox.log:
