Default Squid/Samba auth against Zimbra LDAP

    Hi there,

Does a howto or forum thread exist anywhere that begins to explain how one would go about getting Squid and/or Samba to authenticate against a Zimbra LDAP? I have searched for the Squid side of things but not found much.

    Thanks in advance,
    Charles Leaver.

Squid must be a very easy setup, because you only need a username and password to do the match. Just read some documentation over the web.

Samba, on the other hand, requires some change to the LDAP schema. Just join forces and startup the project

    Default I am trying it

I am trying Squid/Samba auth using zimbra-LDAP. I have done it for Squid, but samba is creating a bit problem.

The initial question was about using Zimbra as the directory server, not to have a directory server (AD, FD or others) and having Zimbra to authenticate against it.

I don't think this (the initial question) is a good idea anyway : Zimbra's LDAP schema could change when upgraded from one version to the other, etc...
And it's not supported at all.

The "nice/correct" way is Patricio's way (and it's quite bulletproof, compared to playing/tampering with the Zimbra's LDAP server/schema).

it would be fantastic to extend zimbra admin to cope with samba - the ldap schema is relatively stable and it would only require addition to zimbra openldap, and the awareness of the zimbra upgrades to cope with the extended schema and not trample on the extra dit attributes. i would have tried this for now except I wouldn't have the foggiest clue how to extend the admin interface

on possibly a related note I had a vague thought of moving the zimbra openldap to a nonstandard port and writing an openldap proxy/backend module to connect to zimbra rest/soap interface for 'proper' ldap contacts support, maybe it might be worth looking at samba this way. well, if i ever get a few minutes peace from life i'll give it a go....

    Default Same problem

In my case all I get is an "Invalid Credentials" message, does anyone knows if using DN as cn=zimbra,dc=mydomain,dc=com is the way to do it? or if zimbra needs another kind of DN?

    Thanks in advance

OK, got it, instead of cn=zimbra it's cn=config so now i have my Samba looking my LDAP but the oposite id not working, my Zimbra LDAP cannot create anything on my Samba, not even my Samba Domain using the UI.

    Any suggestions?
