Default mta stopped: Postfix is not running

Hi,

I'm not able to get my zimbra server mta service running

I've tried several things (I thought they were related to my problem):
stop zimbra
/opt/zimbra/libexec/zmfixperms -extended
start zimbra

change nsswitch.conf db files to files

None of them have worked

In the /var/log/zimbra.log I see this error:
Dec 4 09:54:48 srvzim1 postfix/postqueue[23206]: fatal: Queue report unavailable - mail system is down

Please Help!

Has this been running before ? What other messages are in /var/log/zimbra.log for Postfix ? If a new install then check nothing else is running on port 25 eg. Sendmail/Exim
Code:
netstat -an | grep 25

Do, please, answer the other questions you were asked as well as that one - it helps in diagnosis of the problem.

If Postfix is still not running, and with response to your netstat, then you have another MTA running on port 25.

In /var/log/zimbra.log I don't see anything more related to postfix
It's not a new install. It has been running for more than one year

Yes, exim is running, I think it was a requirement for apticron (to automatically detect system updates)

I suppose I have to stop exim and then it will run

I'll investigate if I can get apticron running with zimbra and not with exim

Just stop it and disable it from starting at boot.
