Default disaster recovery prep

My company is currently running the Network edition 5.0.16. I want to know what I need to make a recoverable backup. i can supply a second server with the same os and version of zimbra.

I currently have nightly rsyncs making an off site backup of /opt/zimbra/backup

If i lose my current server will i be able to restore everything with just /backup or will I need other files and directories?

also when i restore from backups do i need to install zimbra with the same passwords and hostnames or can i do ./install -s to install from a backup?

i've read the wikis on restoring and migrating but have not found the answers to what i'm trying to do. any input would be greatly appreciated.

We do it the same way (syncing /opt/zimbra/backup) and had to do disaster recovery twice.
It works, you don't need anything else.
Just be sure to use the same passwords, note them somewhere.

Do i install zimbra with the same passwords in the config or do I make a /opt/zimbra/backup drop the backup in there then install?

We installed it first, then sync the backup directory into there.

To make the disaster recovery process a little more conforming, you may also want to do things like back up /opt/zimbra/conf, your SSL certificates, and some of the log files Zimbra deposits in /tmp.

Not all of that is needed, but...

Hope that helps,
Mark
