Default Options for removing messages from ZCS

I've been tasked in creating a procedure for our users to comply with an e-mail retention/purge policy. I know that by COS, I can specify "E-mail message lifetime", and that will take care of the server-side "purging" policy. However, I have yet to find a user-friendly way to download and later search through e-mail messages when using the web client. The Zimlets allowing you to download a single or group of messages works OK, but not great for retrieval, especially if you use it often. Outlook has "personal folders" which is great, but we rely solely on the web client for access. Zimbra has the "import/export" feature, but that is very difficult to use in the way I'm being requested. Any ideas out there?

Just noticed that in Zimbra Desktop, it has a handy "Local Folders" link. That is EXACTLY what I'm looking for, but for webmail. I'm not sure where the "Local Folders" would reside... maybe Samba share? I'm getting into an area I am not familiar with, so any suggestions are appreciated!
