Yes. Since version 3.1 it's been fully integrated.

Not really, there isn't much need for documentation. There's always the DSPAM site for further information. What is it you need to know?

    Default DSPAM web interface

Looking at the DSPAM site their seems to be a web interface, How easy would it be to make this work with the Zimbra implementation

the dspam that is bundled with zimbra suppresses building of the stats file for the web interface and does not include the web interface itself.

zimbra takes care of training, quarantining and periodic housekeeping for you, so there's no immediate need to use the web interface other than to provide pretty graphs, but they would not be integrated with the zimbra admin ui anyway.

i would imagine the dspam support will get better integrated as the releases go on, it's a fairly new addition and looking at email headers i'm not convinced its doing a very good job in its current default setup.

Yeah.... We're (post 4.0) going to up the dspam weight, but if you want to do this at home, modify /opt/zimbra/conf/salocal.cf.in

    header DSPAM_SPAM X-DSPAM-Result =~ /^Spam$/
describe DSPAM_SPAM DSPAM claims it is spam
    score DSPAM_SPAM 0.5

    header DSPAM_HAM X-DSPAM-Result =~ /^Innocent$/
describe DSPAM_HAM DSPAM claims it is ham
    score DSPAM_HAM -0.1

Change the score lines to assign a score to dspam - currently, we add .5 for spam, subtract .1 for ham - and restart with zmcontrol to rewrite the salocal.cf file.

    Default Increase Dspam weight

I am not clear what this means what is the scale here? Should I up the spam score from .5 to 1 or should I I make it 10?

If .5 is conservative what would be a sensible less conservative value?

By default, spamassassin declares message with a 5.0+ score to be spam. So if you set "score DSPAM_SPAM 0.5" to 5.0 and "score DSPAM_HAM -0.1" to -5.0 I would think that would have the effect of completely replacing spamassassin's 'decision' about the message with that of dspam.

So it seems that 0.5 and -0.1 are extremely conservative, in fact they render dspam essentially turned off.

A more practical approach might be to balance the spamassassin and dspam results with scores in the range of 2 or 3 (+ and -). Ultimately, you will need to experiment with these settings and review the results against your particular mix of mail/spam.

You can look in the headers for each message to see exactly what spamassassin and dpsam have 'decided'.

Be aware that both of these tools need to be trained before they will reach their greatest accuracy and this may have an impact on the 'right' settings for you.

generally speaking, the more rules with smaller scores that are used, the better. it's very dangerous to rely on a single mechanism to decide, so the most I would set dpsam to be is about 2.5, personally - especially as the default zimbra of use dspam can produce erratic results.

you're better off installing extra SA components - in particular, razor2, dcc and rules_du_jour. you should find if you take the time to configure these well and keep any maximum single rule score to about 2.5-3, you will get very good results. I can't remember the last time a spam ended up in my inbox, and i get about 2-500 spams a day.
