Default [SOLVED] Importing deleted messages, where do they go?

OK, I'm importing some mbox based mail folders (generated via UW IMAP) and in my test mbox file, I have some messages marked for deletion but not expunged (X-Status: D).
I've imported the file both with imapsync and with a modified version of the mbox2imap.py found on the Zimbra wiki (the modification is to include the date and flags from the mbox file).

My test mailbox has 20 messages, 2 of which are marked as deleted.

After the import, the first time I click on the folder, I see all of the messages (deleted ones included). If I click on the folder again, the deleted ones are gone, but if I hover over the folder name, it still says there are 20 messages in the folder. I've also checked the Trash and the deleted messages aren't there.

So, two questions:
1) can I 'unmark' the deleted messages to get them back?
2) how can I expunge the marked for deletion messages?

It doesn't appear that Zimbra supports a 'marked for deletion'/expunge model for deleted messages. Just the 'move to trash'/empty trash model, is that correct?
Thanks,
TomL

You can do both of those steps by connecting with a fat IMAP client (such as Thunderbird etc.) and unmarking them or compacting the folder depending on whether you want to keep or remove the messages.

imapsync has --expunge1 and --expunge2 options.

When we migrated from cyrus a few years ago, we gave people plenty of notice, and expunged.

The mark deleted/expunge model, while techhnically required for resource-limited file-per-mailbox backends, was never really popular with users. Our previous Mulberry users don't seem to miss it.

Thanks, I see this as just a transitional issue so the fat client suggestion will work fine.
