Default set outside smtp server as zimbraMailHost?

Dear All,

some users have the need to send newsletter regularly to external / internal users, and when sending to internal users (student/teachers), it oftens takes long time and cause other regular emails delayed for 30 or 40 minutes.

thus, is it possible to set these user's zimbraMailHost attribute to other smtp server, so that all emails for these users are routed to that smtp server and reduce zimbra mail server's load?

actually, i've tried to set this attribute by "zmprov ma" command and ldapmodify, but failed to do so.

=====
ERROR: service.INVALID_REQUEST (invalid request: specified zimbraMailHost does not correspond to a valid server service hostname: (new.smtp.server)
=====

any other advice? Thanks.

You should be able to use Transport Table for external servers - Zimbra :: Wiki to do what you need.

Thanks for prompt reply.

question :
does it also work if sending emails to those accounts in mail server itself?

i'm wondering if sending emails to accounts in same server, it will not go through postfix outbound queue, instead, just passing to LMTP and do a local delivery?

thanks.

Hmmm, Your probably right as the zimbraMailHost parameter is how ZCS determines the correct mailstore to deliver too. How did you specify the zimbraMailHost did you use smtp:new_mail_server ?

zmprov ma account@domain zimbraMailhost smtp:new.smtp.server
