Hi Bob and welcome to the forums!
Please add your Zimbra version to your profile here by running as the zimbra user "
zmcontrol -v".
In my experience, it's best to think of Zimbra as an appliance where the sysadmin gets to choose the base operating system.
Like a lunch special at your local diner "no substitutions".
It's not that MySQL is the only "supported" database. It would be more accurate to say that for each specific version of Zimbra there is only one supported version of MySQL (the one bundled with that version of Zimbra). Same for Postfix, Jetty and all of the other components included with Zimbra.
Hope that helps,
Mark
