Failed to process message: illegal escape sequence

We're using Snow Leopard's calendar server and can sending invitations to Zimbra users on a different system. They receive the invitation and can accept into their calendar. However, the return accepted email back to the Snow Leopard server produces the following error:

- Failed to process message: u'error: illegal escape sequence: \'\\"\'' -

Which results in the Snow Leopard users not being able to see invitations from Zimbra users.

Has anyone gotten Zimbra to communicate with Snow Leopard's Calendar Server? Other clients (outlook, ical) are fine.
