Question Upgrading from Zimbra 5 to 6: How to change reading pane default for users using CLI?

Hi Everyone,

I've had some pretty negative feedback from users who have been upgraded from Zimbra 5 to 6. They really hate the new default reading pane layout. And want the old reading pane layout.

Does anyone know how I can change reading pane default for users using CLI? I've looked in the Web Admin UI and there's no option to even set the reading pane option.

Thanks in advance!

I didnt notice a change, only that three column mode became available to choose. Are you saying that once the upgrade was completed, some accounts started showing in three column without user interraction? Which theme is in use?

Correct. After the ZCS 6 upgrade users preference was changed from 'reading pane off' to 'reading pane right' (three pane mode). I do not know what themes were in use as all users change their preference to suit

This has occurred on both a SLES10, RHEL and Ubuntu ZCS upgrade. And without the user setting the pane preference.

After the upgrade, 'reading pane right' (three pane mode) was set for all users. Consequently each user changed it back.

Ah, that makes sense. The available options were basically "On" and "Off" and are now "On, Right, Off" So it's possible that internally, the value that needs to be stored for 'off' was 2 and now needs to be 3. I didnt see this happen as I have the reading pane on, so my stored value of 1 would still be correct.

You can turn off the reading pane for a user with this command

zmprov ma username zimbraPrefReadingPaneEnabled FALSE
