Default Quota by domain instead of by account

Hi,

Most customers who are interested to have their email hosted with us on our hosted Zimbra services always ask for quota by domain rather than by account as this give them the flexibility to maximize their storage usage whereby heavy users (few top management) can use more than the default 2GB we gave them without paying more since many of them are light users who don't even need 100MB.

I did a search and found that this was a requested feature back in 2006. When can we expect this feature be implemented? It will be one of the most important and requested feature for hosted service.

Thanks,
Boon Hong.

Well, if you're interested in a feature you should vote on it and keep your eye on the Product Portal. Product & Feature release dates are not pre-announced, you can search the forums for some details on how bugs and feature requests get added to zimbra and implemented.

I have already voted for it. Unfortunately the vote count is too low to get notice after 3 years! Maybe hosted providers are too busy to vote or too few to make an impact?

Most email hosting services provide domain quota as basic. It's surprising that such an advanced email hosting service like Zimbra that we can easily impress our potential customers suddenly gave us that hopeless look when they ask if the quota is by domain or by account.

Lost customers = lost income for zimbra. Not important enough?

I honestly don't understand why domain quotas aren't implemented already.. it saves administration, it makes quotas more flexible within a domain, and it gives users of Zimbra more reasons to use it.

We don't use quotas, we just bill people for what they use across the domain.

As a hosting provider, I don't think I've ever heard of someone not choosing or leaving Zimbra just because the quota is implemented that way. I certainly see the merit in implementing the feature request, but it's more a question of how the customer is billed than how the quota is implemented. We bill space usage by the domain like everyone else and it's definitely a pain, but I've never heard of it being a show-stopper by any stretch of the imagination. Despite all of that, it sounds like a great idea and I will vote for the bug

Perhaps it's not a show stopper to most, but I for one would like to be able to set a given amount of disk space for a domain, and then know that we're not all of a sudden facing a situation where the customer is using 10 GB of data without us knowing about it.

We have agreed a fixed price for fixed accounts with shared 10GB. Some users need more storage than others, so we end up having to keep changing Classes of diff storage amount for every account almost every few weeks. This is not efficient to work with at all.
