Pane Problem in 6.x

I have recently converted to 6.x. We have a lot of users who are using the STANDARD version (HTML). After the conversion, the MAIL VIEW is setup as a right pane view. Looks OK...but for those who want to keep the bottom pane view of no pane, there is no option to change this within PREFERENCES or from the Admin UI.

Please advise if there is something I'm missing...My users want their old view pane back.
