Default Change the volumes of Zimbra's data

Hello,

I wonder if it is possible to change the directories of Message Store, Data Store and Index Store from the Linux server where Zimbra runs to an other computer.

In our organisation, we have users loged on a Netware server, and having their own directories with all their data on this server (the current mail server runs also on this Netware server).
It would be great to configure Zimbra to store users's data on the same computer than they have already their other data. The backup process (for example) would be improved (because all is stored on the same computer).

Is someone have already succeed to do this ? Or is there too much barriers in the Zimbra code ?

Thank you

Nico

Perhaps in the future, you'll be able to customize the directories.

Right now, I would strongly recommend against it.. . .but it is possible.

Zimbra stores everyting in /opt/zimbra

All scripts and code point there.

Thank you wannabetenor,

I will test it.
The definition of a new place for users's data can't currently be made in the webadmin, isn't it ? Because it doesn't accept an IP adress inside the path to the directories.

In addition, do you think that the files and the scripts pointing to '/opt/zimbra/' are all open source ? (I mean, are they 'modifiable' by a user using Zimbra Open Source Edition ?)

An inexpensive storage expansion solution on HP servers like a DL-360G4 or equivalent is to get (used from ebay), a 6402 RAID cacheing controller, an MSA30 JBOD, and a bunch of 10K or 15K used 146GB U320 drives. For about $1,500, you can put together a terabyte of very high performance RAID10 storage and still have expansion capacity.

With Zimbra shut down, you can rsync /opt/zimbra to the JBOD, remount /opt/zimbra on the JBOD, and you are done. If you want to maximize performance, create separate RAID10 arrays (with appropriately sized and speedy disks) for ~/backup, ~/db, ~/data, etc.

Hope that helps!

All the best,
Mark
