Default [SOLVED] Emails containing word attachments sometimes don't arrive

Can anyone shed any light on this problem? Customer sent us an email with a word attachment which we didn't receive. She sent it several more times with the same result. Eventually sent it to one of our staff's hotmail acount where it duly arrived. We amended the word document and sent it back to the customer from zimbra (5.0.18) web client and she received it. As an experiment we then sent the attachment from the staff members hotmail account to the staff member's zimbra account - the mail didn't arrive. Then sent it internally (i.e. zimbra to zimbra) and it did deliver. The attachment is a pretty standard word doc about 5mb with photos included so I don't think it's being blocked by size.

This is not the first time that customers have claimed they have sent us word docs that we did not receive although we regularly do receive such attachments from other senders. Seems to be a random occurence.

Any ideas? Our OS is sles10 with zimbra NE 5.0.18

Simon

i'd start in /var/log/zimbra.log and look at if it's even making it to the front door i.e. if postfix sees the connect from their mailserver and delivery (or attempted delivery) of the message

OK, have looked in zimbra.log and the message is arriving at the server but is not being delivered to my mailbox. In the extract below the sender is douglas@oakestates.co.uk and the recipient is simon@oaklets.co.uk, there is a small word attachment.

The mail did not arrive in my mailbox. The sender was using outlook express.
Shortly before a larger word attachment was properly delivered from bonnietarling@ntlworld.com to simon@oaklets.co.uk - see the following extract from zimbra.log.

So, the mail is arriving and then, on some occasions, when word attachments are present not being delivered to the recipients mailboxes. I'm afraid I'm not very familiar with these outputs - do they tell us anything or do we need to look somewhere else for the answer?

OP, please do not post multiple times. I answered the one you posted yesterday.

Code:
Sep 11 10:24:09 mailserver postfix/lmtp[13556]: 4A2547116F: to=<bonnie@oaklets.co.uk>, relay=mail-oaklets.co.uk[10.10.10.40]:7025, delay=2.4, delays=0.82/0.01/0.01/1.6, dsn=2.1.5, status=sent (250 2.1.5 OK)
Message appears to have been delivered okay. Is the web-client being used or something else to read the emails ?

No, we are using the webclient, although I have just checked via an imap connection with windows mail and the messages are not showing there either.

Sorry about the double post, I thought I'd put the first one in the wrong section - is there any way I can cancel it?

Can you try re-indexing, from the Admin GUI, the users mailbox.

OK, have reindexed 5000+ messages, 0 failed and the missing messages are still not showing.

Hmmm, can you check further down in the log-file after the mail was received to see if any other messages. Also check /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log for any error messages pertaining to that users account.

Nothing else further down the file, have just done another test with same sender but this time the attachment was a .jpg rather than a .doc. Here's the output.

This time the message was delivered properly including the photo to my mailbox. A few days ago a customer tried several times to send me a quote via word and it was not received - he converted it to a pdf and it was properly delivered. Seems that this bug affects word files only and even then intermittently as some are delivered.

Have looked in /opt/zimbra/log/mailbox.log and can see something about discarding a message from douglas@oakestates.co.uk - could this be where the messages are getting lost?. There follows an extract from around the time that the first message quoted was sent, received at the server but not delivered to the mailbox simon@oaklets.co.uk.
