Default Trying to use IM. Got error service.FAILURE

I was curious to try the IM functionality, but after enable it and setting the preferences for it when I try to use it I get this error when writing on the "chat box" or adding a new buddy:

A network service error has occurred.

method: IMSubscribeRequest
msg: system failure: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Illegal JID: "Paula Costa"
code: service.FAILURE
detail: soap:Receiver
trace: btpool0-8:1252164614556:5b4ede57db2c1414
request:

mnpf@mnpf.net0_dc007666404dd38a7daef61bc1647d9fe991e346_69643d3 3363a61333061346362382d613063312d343364632d3938383 12d6335643931646664333363333b6578703d31333a3132353 23333363734333832343b747970653d363a7a696d6272613b

Seems like the service is not running or something right?
How can I check for IM service?

There's no specific service for IM, so it wont show as running or stopped with zmcontrol status. If you can check that it's enabled in the account and server settings then that's about all the control there is over the service.

It's controlled by the mailbox process I think, so restarting that may help. You could also telnet into the service to see if something is listening, it runs on ports 5222/5223

Thanks Dirk.

I can connect via telnet to both ports.

tcp 0 0 :::5222 :::* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 :::5223 :::* LISTEN

Do you have any more tips to try debug the problem?

Those ports need to be opened on the firewall later when the IM starts to work?

Hi, same problem with messenger.

I havenīt boot the server....I will do it at the afternoon and tell you if that fixes the problem.

The telnet to those ports work fine.

The error you posted looks like it is saying that you tried to add a user of "Paula Costa", but that is an invalid ID for a XMPP contact, try using the person's email address instead.

Are you getting the exact same error when typing or a different one?

Every time i am trying to type something on the IM chat window, the error appears.

Now, i must say that the email works perfectly fine, but i have the Zimbra server under NAT.

What error though? The error that MNPF posted was related to adding a contact.

Thanks ArcaneMagus!!

That did it! I was filling all the fields when adding a new buddy and never did actually added a buddy and when tried to start a chat got does error.

Now I did as you told me and added a buddy just by filling the email address field and every thing went OK!!
