Recover single message from redo log?

Hi,

We just had a case where a user deleted an important mail immediately upon arrival. I was able find a copy by grepping through the redo log. In this case, there were several cc's, so I was able to copy the message from another account.

Can any of the cli utilities extract messages from the redo log? Or is the format documented so I can write a script to do this?

The redo logs in the OSS edition are intended for crash recovery only. In the Network Edition the backup tools will use them for incremental backups. In your case it would have helped unless a backup ran before the message was deleted. We don't have tools today to pull messages from a redo.log but seems like a reasonable request based on your experience. Can you file it in bugzilla?
