I'm sorry but I think that you misunderstod my suggestion. I already knew that I can modify basically everything I want, barring the licence agreement of cource.

What I am suggesting is that when you fix a bug, and there's a long time till the next release, you simply provide the patch file, so that people can apply it themselves if it sufficiently important to them.

I can easily imagine it being quite a challenge to coordinate everything up to a release of zimbra magnitude that's why this solution albeit imperfect, might appease frustated customers and users out there. I can't speak for everybody, but I would certainly appreciate being able to solve these kinds of problems between releases.

Releasing patch files would cause more problems than it solves and would be a support nightmare, I don't think that's likely to happen unless there are exceptional circumstances and only where possible otherwise it will be a full release.

That's why you wouldn't support it, as I previously suggested. You would just provide the patch files, with a disclaimer specifying this is totally unsupported and only for "testing purposes". The code would already be in the source tree, it's just a matter of you releasing it.

I'd bet there a few people out there willing to take the chance, if the bug is grave enough. For example this bug (from the messages on PM) only a matter of patch two .js files. There's another bug out there (due to be fixed in 6.0.3) bug id 42127, where there actually is a patch available on PM, easily applied and completely fixes the problem. Why couldn't this be standard practice?

As you said the fix is already in the source tree, so why not check it out yourself?

The only problem with doing this is you would have to check the files and make sure no other changes were made that will break your system. One of the many reasons "a simple patch" is almost never so simple.

My concern is that companies which have paid licenses and support (like mine), are sitting around waiting for an update while huge amounts of time is wasted over the confusion this causes.

It's a concern for all users who depend on Zimbra and require this fix as well.

What you're waiting for is for that fix to be verified by QA and verification that it's not causing any other problems. If you have any concerns then raise it with your sales contact. The current status is, as I've stated above, that fixes will be released in an upgraded package and not a single fixes.
