Default restore, clamav,intercepts

these questions may sound strange... but please consider that we have almost no experience at this

Problem No 1
okie.... the thing is ... before going into production we want to try restoring lost data...
we have ZCS working fine on one sys (minus a few problems we can't get through yet)
on another we have jus tthe basic installation of ZCS... no mails were sent received or anything... we've taken a backup of the good system and are trying to restore it on the other one...
we tried
{{{mv /opt/zimbra /opt/zimbra_broken

cp -rp [location of backup]/zimbra_backup /opt

mv /opt/zimbra_backup /opt/zimbra

}

then we ran ./install.sh

and are having problems with the mysql starting itself

Problem No 2
Problem 2
We are interested in setting intercepts or logging Instant Messaging data.. Is this possible??

Problem No 3
We are not exactly sure how the clamav works... We've seen that it downloads updates from db.us.clamav.net..

After that, do we need to do anything ?? Or does it run itself??

Thanks for taking the time to reply

Abby

just do the following,
take backup of the good system (services should be stopped before taking backup).
Secondly,go to the second server, install the zimbra with ./install -s .
rename the directory like mv /opt/zimbra /opt/zimbra_install.
now restore the zimbra from the good system to the new system at /opt/zimbra.

I guess this is will help.

Regards
Adeel

For detailed instructions on many different ways to do backup/restoration on open source take a look at Open Source Edition Backup Procedure - Zimbra::Wiki

The basic way to do a restore depends on the state of the server, if you just want to restore a server to an earlier state of the server stop the zimbra services and replace /opt/zimbra with the version from the backup.
If you are moving to a new server you would need to install a new copy of zimbra of the EXACT same version as your backup, then after install replace /opt/zimbra with your copy from the backup.

Teach me to remember to go to page 2 before posting...

Problem 1:
From your log are you referring to the entries at "090807 14:10:40"? It looks like there was already a mysql server started when the one from this log tried to start, make absolutely sure that all processes from the zimbra user are killed before attempting to run any backup/upgrade/install.

Problem 2:
Never messed around with this myself but I believe [SOLVED] Law Enforcement (aka intercept)? is what you are looking for, since all IM conversations are sent as emails to the participating users, this should grab them.

Problem 3:
clamav updates it's database periodically, no interaction required
