Default Import Tar-Gzip file fails - sort of

I am importing some files from my desktop to Briefcase using a Tar-Gzip compressed file in the Import/Export function under Preferences.

No matter what is in the file it starts the import then offers an error that the import has started but an invalid request has occurred with no details. When I look at the Briefcase all the folders import in the correct hierarchy but no files.

Please advise.
