Default Auto-reply and empty from=<>

Hi!

We are having a problem when using auto-reply feature.
When activating vacation/auto-reply all answered messages are sent as from=<> and our relay host are bouncing the mails.

Example:

Aug 3 11:52:02 sv811 postfix/smtpd[16739]: 3ED2537722B: client=sv807.example.com[10.192.65.16]
Aug 3 11:52:02 sv811 postfix/cleanup[12800]: 3ED2537722B: message-id=<696838103.23921249293122169.JavaMail.root@sv80 9.example.com>
Aug 3 11:52:02 sv811 postfix/qmgr[8225]: 3ED2537722B: from=<>, size=1311, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Aug 3 11:52:02 sv811 postfix/smtp[13367]: 3ED2537722B: to=<correo@example2.es>, relay=216.13.118.66[216.13.118.66]:25, delay=0.11, delays=0.04/0/0.05/0.02, dsn=5.0.0, status=bounced (host 216.13.118.66[216.13.118.66] said: 550 Invalid IP (193.36.153.78) for this domain (6) (in reply to MAIL FROM command))
Aug 3 11:52:02 sv811 postfix/qmgr[8225]: 3ED2537722B: removed

Regards

Please update your forum profile (don't post it in this thread) with the output of the following command:

Code:
su - zimbra
zmcontrol -v

Isn't that likely to be the problem?

phoenix,

Sending mails user to user (from internal to external) Zimbra is putting the "from=" correctly, like from=jmartinezm@testdomain.com. When I activate the auto-reply feature Zimbra answers as from=<> to the original sender.

The message shown before is returned by our relayhost platform (external ANTISPAM provider). And the address (193.36.153.78) shown corresponds to our mail platform.

Auto-answer is working corretly in our internal network but in any case is sending from=<> as origin address.

Note: We are using a multiserver configuration.

Thanks,
Javier

Hello Javier,

Were you ever able to resolve this problem? I am encountering exactly the same symptoms ie internal auto-reply works but external auto-reply is blocked by our outbound filtering system due to the invalid from=<> address.

(Using ZCS NE 5.0.20)

Regards

Gordon

You will need to make sure that your external spam/virus service is correctly accepting null mail from your address. We had to add our external public and mailserver addresses as 'trusted/outgoing addresses' to our filtering service. The exact mechanism will vary with package.

(FYI, 'from=<>' is a valid from address. Per RFC 821 it is permissible to leave the reverse-path null. See http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc821.html )

Regards

Gordon
