Zimbra + Samba - web access to samba shared files

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone managed to get samba shared files and folders visible in zimbra web interface? There is a Briefcase, which allows users to store files on the server. Is it possible to to make certain folders and files on a filesystem to become visible in user's Briefcase? I am after making some folders visible both in Zimbra web interface and through Samba windows file sharing.

I've been wondering this for almost a year now...with no success....

However when reading through the 6.0 new features I did see: "A new Preferences>Sharing folder lets users see a list of folders shared
with them and folders they share with others. (Bug 7473)"

And under Major Fixes listed is: "24178 Linux users can now access documents in Briefcase as if they are accessing files on a network drive."

So...I don't know what that EXACTLY means...but am being hopeful! LOL

Maybe someone here can elaborate....?

this is for zimbra folders only.

yeah this is webdav it's quite common technology it just allows you to browse a website as if it's a fileserver. most web based dms systems support this. so within windows you'd be able to map a drive to your zimbra briefcase even.

sorry neither of htese features are going to do what the original poster wants.

Ahhh ok. Yea I've setup webdav, but it proved to be no faster than a direct connection with VPN.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear....

VPN directly to the file server to access files/folders....not necessarily a zimbra server.
versus setting up webdav and accessing files via zimbra's briefcase.
Or versus setting up webdav on the file server to access files/folders that way.

No direct vpn connection to zimbra's briefcase.

A direct vpn connection to the file server proved to be the fastest performance when managing files/folders when out of the office.

Also wondering if it is at all possible to access samba shares via either Webmail or Zimbra Desktop client. This is a real problem for us when clients are switching from products such as Outlook.

I suggested a second apache instance running mod_dav to access the 'My Docs', but then ran out of talent! Anyone want to pick this idea up?
