Default Email Monitoring

Is there any kind of email monitoring we can do with Zimbra? (for outbound emails mainly) We would like to be able to flag emails that contain possible customer account numbers, or inappropriate attachments.

Is this even a function of a mailserver, or do we need to look at a whole separate solution?

Thanks.

Well it depends really ... If one of the emails does match you selection criteria then what would you wish to do with it eg. quarantine ? You could do this with SpamAssassin but if you require finer granularity then I would look at using something like ::: Official Home Page for MailScanner - Anti-Virus and Anti-Spam Filter :::.

What we would want is to be able to monitor email communications to make sure that no confidential information is being sent out electronically, or anything that is deemed as inapropriate. I wouldn't need to stop the email from going out, but would need to have a copy for use when investigating issues.

Basically, all e-communications should be able to be monitored. I know there is software that does this, I was just wondering if there was anything specific to Zimbra that would allow this.

i don't think zimbra does what you're looking for if i assume correctly you want to be able to catch outgoing words in e-mails and stuff. like we use sophos puremessage as our e-mail gateway and it will detect credit card numbers and what not. there might be a way to make postfix do this and therefor hack zimbra to allow it to work but you probably want to look at a separate relay that can do this.
