Default DNS related query

Hi,

We have registered one domain called example.com with A and MX record with our public ip and email address format is user@example.com.

But Now we would like to register another domain called "testmail.example.com" and email id format will be user@testmail.example.com.

So is there any option in zimbra where this child domain can use parent domain's IP to for mail communication ??

Can we do this on DNS level ??

OR we need to register testmail.example.com domain seperatly with A nad MX record ??

please suggest.

Thanks.

testmail.example.com would just be a TLD (Third Level Domain) of example.com. You do not need to register another domain You would just need to create a MX for the TLD and point it at your ZCS server.

Thanks Uxbod for quick response.

So let me understand it correctly ...that i need to configure LOCAL DNS for testmail.example.com and ask DNS provider to only point MX record of the TLD to the IP of the parent domain.

Now we have another issue here...

We have setup example.com on our one DC and its registered with one public ip...

and we are planning to setup testmail.example.com to another DC and public ip is different for this server.

so in this case how to setup and register DNS for testmail.example.com ?

Thanks

So is testmail.example.com going to be pointing to a different ZCS installation ? If so then your ISP will need to point the TLD MX and A record to that server and not your primary one.
