It doesnt tell anything about what transport is it retrying.

Default Reboot fixed the problem

I'm assuming intermittent networking problems were at the root of this problem because a reboot of the server fixed the issue. There was nothing I could see in the mail logs or system logs that was being reported, but something was going on...
