Default console: login asks for password twice before authenticating

Hi there!

I have Zimbra running with Samba using the Zimbra-LDAP-Userdatabase.
I installed it according to UNIX and Windows Accounts in Zimbra LDAP and Zimbra Admin UI - Zimbra :: Wiki and have the following problem:

when i login to the console , i am asked for the username once and then the password twice. login only works, after the password has been put in twice. but none of the two passwords is relevant, i can enter whatever i want, the two passwords can even be different from each other.

when i log in via ssh, it asks for the username and password once, just like it should.

and when i am logged in and try to su, i am asked for the the password twice, no matter if via ssh or directly on the server. in this case, only the second password i enter is relevant.

has nobody ever had this problem before?
