    Default ldap/slapd won't start

    Hi,

Zimbra server has been running for about 8 months. All of the sudden the server will not start. More specifically LDAP will not start. Trying to start Zimbra or LDAP generates the following error /opt/zimbra/bin/ldap: line 59: kill: (2389) - No such process. I am really new to the Linux/Zimbra world and would appreciate any help that is offered. If I can't get this running again I will have to dump Zimbra and go back to Exchange. Not very interested in going down that path but I have to get services restored. Once again thanks for your help.

How about starting with your Zimbra version? What's the output of the following:

    Code:
    su - zimbra
    zmcontrol -v
What changed on your server to cause this problem, any operating system update or changes to Zimbra?
    Regards

    Bill

To the best of my knowledge nothing has changed. That, for me is the frustrating part. I am wondering if there was a version upgrade or some other auto install process that changed the environment. In any case, here is the version information.

    Release 5.0.11_GA_2695.F7_20081117055558 UNKNOWN

    Thanks for your help.

Your problem might not be an auto-update but you should never have it enabled on a server for this very reason. Stop Zimbra then see if there's any processes still running, if there is then kill them. When you've done that start Zimbra again and post the exact message you see and any errors in the log files.
    Regards

Seems you already have a ldap process running or might be stale pid.
