Code:
cat /etc/hosts
cat /etc/resolv.conf
dig domain.com mx
dig domain.com any
host `hostname` <- note backticks and not single quotes
are there any forwarders on the peoples accounts at all ?

Could you paste zimbra.log entries for the errors. This error comes generally when you mydestination is not proper.

Please also paste output of postconf -n

So your domain is mail.xxxxxx.com ? And zimbra.log entries also

zimbra mta accepts mail for domains listed in mydestination, virtual_mailbox_domains, virtual_alias_domains.
