[xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] refused to talk to me: 554-5.7.1 - connection refused. ip name lookup failed for xxx.xxx.xxx.50

This kind of error generally appears when the remote server is doing some kind of checks say RBL etc.

There seems to be issue in your name lookup corresponding to your ip address used for sending mail.

Veronica:

That is exactly what I was thinking. Because the .50 address is my firewall's address, it is not my mail servers address. I have no clue how its picking that up and why its coming back. Other than the fact that it is the gateway possibly? But how would I fix that.

Are you natting to some IP which is not registered. Generally external services like RBL do a reverse lookup for your IP address to match with your name.

Sorry for the stupid question. But how would I know if my IP is registered or not?

I do know that when I do an mxlookup and diagnostic at mxtoolbox.com everything is a go.

And yes I am doing some NATing. The NATing is handled by the Firewall which is .50, its using a "virtual" interface if you will at .97 which directs it to the mail server.
