Default Changing ActiveSync Ping Interval

Is there a way to change how often a client checks in via ActiveSync? I realize that I'm talking about the client side, but is there a server setting that tells the client how often to connect or how long to maintain the connection?

I've received one complaint about ActiveSync draining the battery on a Palm OS based Treo. My boss said that this value can be changed in an Exchange environment, but everything I've read indicates that the client dynamically determines this value.

Any insights?

I could be wrong, but this will not help battery life. Once that data connection is open on the phone its going to use battery more. Even if the data is not being used.
