Default zmmailboxdctl is not running

Hi all,

Got a small problem with my Zimbra install. I was running 5.0.10 on a Debian etch box, and made a small mistake. In my /etc/apt/apt.conf, I had the following line:

Code:
APT::Default-Release "stable";
Well, last weekend, having had too much time on my hands, I did the first upgrade on my mailserver since Valentines day. When I did, it upgraded from etch (4.0) to lenny (5.0), and among other things, upgraded perl from 5.8.8 to 5.10.x. Needless to say, Zimbra had kittens.

So I rebuilt the machine using the etch cd, and installed 5.0.10. Everything seemed to work. So I pulled /opt/zimbra from backups, although I think I figured out why it didn't work, because I didn't stop Zimbra before running the backup...Hmmm...

After restoring my old config, I ran zmfixperms.

I'm seeing a lot of errors and warnings from /opt/zimbra/log/zmmailboxd.out (attached).

In any case, after restoring my old configuration, everything seems to start except mailboxd. I also tried to upgrade to 5.0.16, in the hopes that the installer would fix any stray configuration problems.

Is there a way to fix zmmailboxd from where I am? I don't have a problem deinstalling and reinstalling Zimbra, as long as I can recover the contents of my mailboxes. What I would like to accomplish:

1. Save the contents of the mailbox db,
2. upgrade to 5.0.16.

What steps do I need to take to get a working install?

Thanks,

That does not look very healthy indeed! Could you post any other error entries from /opt/zimbra/log and /var/log/zimbra.log please ?

Sure. I'm attaching a stacktrace from 06-May. I have the zimbra.log from that timeperiod, but don't immediately see any errors. The snippet I have is 1.8MB, so I can't upload it here. Let me know if there are other files which may be able to provlde more information.

Also, note that I do have a "proper" backup of Zimbra, meaning a tarball that was made with Zimbra shut down, but it is from 10/24/08, which means I will lose about 6 months of mail. Is there perhaps a way that I can restore from that good backup then my mailstore from something more recent? I guess if worse comes to worst, I will just continue with the gap, but I would prefer not to. However, I understand that it was my own foot that I shot...

Nope. That didn't work. I'm going to uninstall, reinstall 5.0.9, restore from my good backup, then upgrade to 5.0.16. Hopefully that will work, even though I'll lose a bunch of emails, I will at least have a working install.

Okay. What do you recommend? I believe the problem, at least in my case, is that I forgot what John told me, that backups have to be done with Zimbra stopped...I forgot this in my regular backup cycle, so all of the more recent backups were made with Zimbra running...

So now my question is what I need to tweak from a "zimbra running" backup to be able to restore it as a "zimbra stopped" backup.
