User Names

Hello,
I am looking for a setting, if there is one? I would like users to have the abilility to enter the user name as the user name NOT the email address. so instead of :
jblack@myelectronicmailsite.com just enter jblack and the user password. Is this possible?

set the default domain as myelectronicmailsite.com in the global config under administration console

Additionally if you have multiple domains (since there can be only 1 default) see the domains > virtual hosts tab.
