Default question about 3+1 Mailbox server

Dear All,

According to :

http://files.zimbra.com/website/zimb...07_webinar.pdf

can anyone help to explain :

1. Page 11, what does 3+1 Mailbox server mean?
Is it saying "3" active servers plus "1" stand-by server?

2. Page 11, 2 MTAs & 2 AS/AV,
are these "2 MTAs" both active MTA server and they can deliver/receive smtp connections for internal/external ? are they running with ZCS HA?

any comment will be highly appreciated.

TIA

3+1 means 3 active and 1 passive (HA)

2 MTA means 2 active (if it was 1 active and 1 passive, it would be "1+1" and not "2")

Thanks for the info.

By the way, for LDAP servers, I read the multiple server installation guide from Zimbra and we can have LDAP Master and LDAP Replica to provide LDAP service.

then are these "LDAP Master" and "LDAP Replica" running in Active-Active mode? or are they Active-Standby mode?

at last, can we have 2nd (or 3rd) LDAP Replica server?

Thanks.

LDAP master means you can read/write from/to it.
LDAP replica means you can only read from it (you write to master and master replicates to slave).

You can have 3 or 4 slaves if you wish but you'll need that much LDAP servers for _huge_ infrastructures (> 100.000 users)...

One master and one slave is enough in most cases.

Don't forget to setup correctly your other servers to use the replica.
