Question ZCS for Windows Server :: New MTA

Reading the release note I take it Z! has written there own MTA software now instead of Postfix due to the inability to port it to Windows.

Does that mean we may see Postfix removed from the Linux et al versions in the future so configuration compatibility is kept ?

At the moment no, there aren't any plans to drop dependency on Postfix for the Linux side.

There are dozens of add-ons, documentation manuals, how to guides, and third-party policy servers out there designed to work with Postfix's API's. We wouldn't want Zimbra admins who rely on those items to suddenly be left out in the cold / be forced to modify all the software to interact with the new MTA.

Plus getting to that point has taken their open source community a significant amount of time. While saleability testing of the new mail-transfer-agent will be QA's primary focus in order to bring it out of beta for the Network Edition, we'd still rather see a 'Postfix for windows' implementation that we could revert to instead, and thereby focus our engineering efforts on other aspects.

Phew that is a relief Perhaps the engineering team could try and port Postfix; I am sure Wietse would be happy to help

Thanks Mike.

If he does someone will have to give him for another FSF award!

I also imagine we'll be seeing a surge in RFE's requesting platform migration tools to assist Linux & Mac <>Windows moves that will keep all your server configuration data; something MSI comprable to the install.sh -s trick for debs & rpm's. Heck even using as many of the same attributes as possible, manual LDAP tree exports could prove tricky - For the moment better to do individual account moves using the tar formatter, imapsync, REST/Curl, etc. And probably a push for zmrestore on NE to account for nix<>ms differences will crop up as well.
