true external dir integration

Hi,

I was told by Zimbra sales that true external dir authentication (meaning one were you don't have to create accounts in Zimbra and the external dir) will be out some time in summer.

Can any one confirm and does the open source version have some kind of beta that I can start playing around with that incorporates this feature?

Based on the timeline Sales provided then I would suspect they mean version 6; so you could try the following Sourceforge :: ZCS6 Nightly Builds.

Others curious were talking about zmexternaldirsync (previously ZimbraSyncTool.pl) available in the source at ZimbraServer/src/bin/zmexternaldirsync with example configs under ZimbraServer/conf/externaldirsync

(We had decided against Bug 14772 - include zmexternaldirsync in build for a multitude of reasons.)

Why did you decide against it? I'm curious what I should watch out for.

And do you plan better integration with external dirs in version 6?
